Blackjack |
|
Blackjack or
twenty-one has more or less become a standard game in
most of the casinos in Nepal and abroad. It is a simple
game to play. In the casinos here it is played with
4 decks of cards with 52 cards on each deck. |
| |
Blackjack is
a game of skill. The object is to beat the dealer i.e.
to get as close to 21 points in your hand without going
over or "bust". The player should either have a hand
higher than the dealer's total or valid hand of whatever
total, while the dealer busts or goes over 21. |
| |
Each card has a numerical
value and its face value is used to total the points.
The deuce to nine (2 to 9) as per their face value.
The 10 and all picture cards (jack, queen and king)
are counted as 10 points. The ace is the most powerful
card and can be counted either as one or eleven points
at the player's discretion. Thus a hand containing 5
and an ace can be 16 or 6. Any hand containing an ace
and a 10 or picture card dealt in the first two cards
is a BLACKJACK-an immediate winner. But there can be
a tie or standoff if the dealer too holds a blackjack.
A hand containing an ace is called hard hand while the
hand with no ace is the soft hand. For example a hand
containing 10 and 6 would be a "soft sixteen" while
a hand containing an ace and 6 would be "hard seventeen". |
| |
At the beginning all
players place their bets. The cards are dealt face up.
The dealer deals each player a card in turn, then one
to himself. |
| |
| If a player has a blackjack, he will be
paid one and a half immediately. |
| |
| If the dealer goes bust, he pays off those
players who still remain in play on that particular hand. |
| |
| Some examples of hands and their value:
|
| |
| Ace + 9= twenty points or ten points. It
should be counted as twenty, a very strong hand. |
| |
| Ace + 10 = Blackjack. It is paid off at
one and a half to one. |
| |
| 10 +6+ J = a bust |
| |
| A+A = two or twelve. Aces can be split or
played out |
| |
| A+ A +K+ 8= twenty. Since each ace can be
counted as one point. |
| |
If the player is not
satisfied with the points he can ask for more cards
to get closer to 21. One can also add up their bet by
buying the card and placing the same amount of bet as
the original bet. |
| |
If a player has identical
cards he can split, adding up the same amount of bet.
Tens can be split as many times as you want. i.e. while
splitting again if you get a 10 you can split again
and so forth and ask for cards till you reach closer
to 21 but not more than 21. |
| |
2 to 9 can be split
two times only and ask for cards as long as you wish
without getting BUST. |
| |
An ace can be split
only one time and will be given only one card for each
split hand. |
